The Bomber War Series
Until the Night is the centrepiece and foundation upon which I plan to anchor a series of books; prequels and sequels but also several standalone ‘companion’ works under the title of ‘The Bomber War Series’.
Until the Night is a timepiece told from a very particular perspective. It does not attempt to deal with what it was like ‘under the bombs’ on either side.
Until the Night is about Bomber Command and while I always planned to write other stories told looking through that historical lens; before I went down that road I began the search for another way to tell the story of the ‘end game’ in Germany in the winter of 1944-45.
The first ‘companion’ book will be ‘The Painter’ a young girl’s memoir about what it was like to be under the bombs in Germany in the last year of the Second World War. The book is inspired by a song; a beautiful, elegiac song by Hannah Martin.
Subsequent additions to the Bomber War series will, among other subjects, focus on both the RAF and Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain and the London Night Blitz. In due course a sequel to Until the Night titled ‘The Cities on the Plain’ will pick up directly at the point where Until the Night ends.
I will add a new book to the series each year, starting with ‘The Painter’ in 2017, and a book called ‘The Cloud Walkers’ set at the time of the Battle of Britain possibly before the end of 2017 or in early 2018.
